Two weeks after a massive landslide crippled copper production at the Kennecott mine, a subcontractor has been forced to let people go, who had been working at the copper pit.

Sandy-based 'Cementation USA' has reduced its workforce, because Kennecott has halted the work they were doing in Bingham Canyon.

But local United Steel Workers Union President Scott Mullins says, his 850 members have still not suffered any layoffs -- and he doesn't believe they will.

Instead, the company has encouraged employees to take vacation time or unpaid leaves of absence.
