The Mormon Church-owned Polynesian Cultural Center, in Hawaii, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The Polynesian-themed park -- on the north shore of Oahu -- opened in 1963.

The LDS Church created it to promote the Polynesian culture...and to provide work for BYU-Hawaii students.

More than 5000 Mormons have traveled to Hawaii to celebrate this week, including several former center employees, now in their 70s.
