Good News: Dog Sniffs Out Cancer, Saves Life

Modern medicine is great and all, but it was Stephanie’s Siberian husky who first notified her that she had cancer. In 2014, Stephanie had been experiencing abdominal pain at the time she got her new dog, Sierra.  She said the dog “put her nose on my lower belly and sniffed so intently that I thought I spilled something on my clothes.” She kept doing it and then ran away and hid. That prompted Stephanie to make a doctor’s appointment, where she was told she had an ovarian cyst and was sent home with pain medicine. Sierra the dog continued to act strangely, so Stephanie decided to get a second opinion.  That doctor confirmed she had stage 3 ovarian cancer, leading to a hysterectomy and chemo. Sierra showed the same weird behavior again in 2015 and again in 2016, and each time it was confirmed that Stephanie’s cancer had returned, first to her liver and then her pelvis.

Stephanie says, “I owe my life to that dog. She has never been wrong.”
