60-year-old Georgina Laurie is a suicide hotline volunteer. She started working there about 4.5 years ago after calling the hotline herself. She’d had a stroke and says her life changed completely and she was having a hard time coping with it. She spent an hour on the phone with the man who answered and decided not to go through with her plan.
Georgina started volunteering so she could help people the same way she was helped. After spending 4.5 years working alongside branch director and long-time volunteer Des McCarthy, Georgina discovered he was the man who answered the phone when she called for help. She was able to thank him, and will soon take over as Director when Des retires.
