47 years ago, 16-year old Debra McKenna lost her boyfriend’s class ring while hiking in Maine. Shawn replaced the class ring with an engagement ring and the two got married after dating through high school and college. Sadly, Shawn passed away in 2017.
On February 14, Debra got a call from her high school alumni association informing her that someone had found Shawn’s long-lost class ring. Not only that, it was discovered underneath eight inches of soil in a forest in Helsinki, Finland—more than 3,800 miles from where it had been lost.
“There was a lot of weeping when I learned that someone found it and made the effort to reach out and find me. There are good people in the world, and we need more of them.”
