A Personal Message From Fisher To The Greatest Audience In The World

Dear friends…

In July of 1982, my wife Julie and I drove across the country for me to take a morning radio job in Utah. Almost everything we owned was packed into a ’79 Toyota Corolla along with my aunt, and a dog. I had never been to Utah and knew little about it. Like many radio people (remember WKRP in Cincinnati) I expected my time in the Beehive State would be brief… maybe a year before moving on to a larger radio market.

Almost 38 years later, I’m still here, still on the radio, and thoroughly a Utahn. You have welcomed me into your homes, your cars and offices, and we have really gotten to know each other. We have shared our joys, our sorrows, and our stories, and together found ways to make our community better. And we have laughed! So many laughs!

But as they say, you know when it’s time. And my time to move on has come. Today, direct from my house (unfortunately), I am doing my final broadcast on KODJ, and moving into retirement. Wife Julie and I will remain here in Utah, our home.

It has been a privilege to know you have been out there each day I have “cracked” a microphone, and I so appreciate the many friendships that have come from this. How amazing to be able to live out my dream of being a radio host in such an incredible community!

I’ll never forget being able to interview Paul McCartney and Elton John and bringing those moments to you; the ideas you shared for “Candid Phones” (back when they were legal!); and the times we came together in moments of crisis such as when we talked about a devastating tornado in Oklahoma and you filled seven tractor trailers with food and emergency supplies in one day for Todd, Erin, and me to take there. (Thank you to Laura Bedore, Candace Peterson, and Peggy Ijams, my incredible morning partners through my years here at iHeart. But especially to Todd Collard and Erin Fraser for the iconic run at KISN-97. Few in radio get to experience such a ride!) And thanks to all my colleagues at iHeart, my radio family for the past thirteen years.

I’ll still be around, and will continue on air with my national hour long weekend talk show, Extreme Genes- America’s Family History Show, which you can hear locally Sunday nights on our sister station, 105.9 KNRS, or on iHeartRadio.

Thanks for your support and many kindnesses through the years. All this couldn’t have happened anywhere but in Utah!

With love,

Scott Fisher
