#GoodNews: Man Becomes First With Down Syndrome to Complete Ironman Race

Chris Nikic has goals. He wants a job, a house, and a car. He also wanted to be the first person with Downs Syndrome to complete an Ironman race.

Chris is 21 years old, lives in Florida, and over the past year he’s been training for the Ironman - a 2.4-mile swim in open water, a 112-mile bike ride and run a full marathon (26.2 miles) all under 17 hours.

Organizers for the race Ironman say not only is Chris the first person with Down syndrome to complete it, he’s the first to even attempt the race.

Even through some setbacks from injuries, Chris kept going because he heard from parents of children with Down syndrome that they appreciated him showing that their children do not have to be limited.

On November 7, Chris crossed the finish line in 16 hours and 46 minutes.
