Derrick Harris is a custodian at an elementary school in Alabama. He dreamed of graduating from college. His fellow faculty members helped him map out a plan to attend community college at night and keep his day job at the school.
On the last day of school, the kids and staff surprised him with a goodbye graduation celebration. He plans to continue his education and become a PE teacher.
Teacher Tracie Lane said that Harris sets an example for hard work and deserves to be celebrated.
"He has been a mentor to so many. He is such a light, a shining light, to everybody he's around," said Lane. "We congratulate you Derrick. We know the sky's the limit for you."
