It was supposed to be a simple student council service project. But when 12-year-old Caleb Konopka learned the 8 blankets he’d made and donated to Primary Children’s Hospital wasn’t nearly enough, he decided to do more. A lot more.
Caleb learned that the largest blanket donation the hospital had ever received was 500, he set his sights on donating 501. He began collecting materials and seeking donations for supplies and as of this week, he’s donated 450 blankets. “Caleb has just never given up,” his mom says. “He’s always just strived to do one more, one more, one more and, you know, we’re so close now.”
Caleb has had his doubts about reaching the goal, but is determined to make a final push and make a large donation before the holidays. “Many times I thought that — I wasn’t going to make the goal,” he says. “When you’re helping people, that determination in you is kind of like, ‘Okay, you’ve got to keep going, you’ve got to keep making blankets for these children.’”
