Most People Wash Hands Because of Peer Pressure?

A new Healthy Hand Washing survey finds that 82% of Americans have spotted folks leaving a public restroom without washing and 67% admit they’ve skipped the soap and just rinsed their hands with water. But those people may be more likely to properly suds up if there are other people in the room. In fact, more than half of folks say they're not only more likely to wash their hands when someone else is in the bathroom, they will likely wash their hands longer and more thoroughly than if they were alone.

And if you wondered whether that sign about employees washing their hands is effective, apparently it is, and to more than just employees. About 40% of Americans admit they're more likely to wash their hands if they see that sign in the bathroom, although more men (44%) than women (34%) are influenced by it.
