When the fourth graders at Roberta Tully Elementary School were going on a field trip to the Falls of the Ohio State Park, Ryan Neighbors almost missed out on the fun. She has spina bifida and uses a wheelchair, so the physical barriers on the trip may have been an issue, but teacher Jim Freeman didn’t let that happen.
He’s not Ryan’s teacher, but he teaches in the classroom next door at the Jeffersontown, Kentucky school and he stepped up to help the 10-year-old enjoy the experience. Freeman carried the girl in a special backpack over the rugged terrain so she didn’t miss a thing. Ryan had a blast and she and her family are beyond grateful for the teacher’s act of kindness.
