On September 26th a video was posted to the LAPD Twitter account of a homeless woman singing opera on the subway platform. The caption said “4 million people call LA home. 4 million stories. 4 million voices...sometimes you just have to stop and listen to one, to hear something beautiful.” The world was blown away and the woman was named the Subway Soprano.
Her real name is Emily Zamourka and she’s a classically trained violinist from Russia. She became homeless after a string of bad luck and medical bills. Her violin was stolen and her only way to earn money was by singing for passersbys. Until now.
After the video went viral, several Go Fund Me pages were set up, raising thousands of dollars for Emily, and she’s been offered a recording contract with GRAMMY-nominated music producer Joel Diamond.
