(Georgia) 27-year old Jonathan Pinkard is autistic and has been on the waiting list for a heart transplant. He was recently taken off the list after an evaluation because he didn’t have a support system. Hehad been in and out of the hospital and was often discharged to a men's shelter because he had nowhere else to go.
Then, Jonathan found Lori Wood - an ICU nurse.“Jonathan was very sick, but he wasn’t eligible for a transplant because he didn’t have a support system. One of the requirements is that you have someone to care for you afterwards. I had to help him. It was a no-brainer. He would have died without the transplant."
Though Lori didn’t know a thing about Jonathan when he moved in, the two bonded quickly over football and "Family Feud". She applied to be his legal guardian so he could get back on the transplant list. Jonathan received his new heart in August! “I knew this is what I was supposed to do."
