#GoodNews: Woman's Efforts Bring Millions to Pay Australian Firefighters

While wildfires continue to devastate Australia, one woman has raised an astonishing amount of money for the country’s unpaid, volunteer firefighters. Some of the firefighters have spent over 100 days fighting the current fires. Over 12 million acres have burned, over 1400 homes have been destroyed, and at least 20 people have died in addition to an estimated half a billion wildlife.

Australian comedian Celeste Barber started a Facebook fundraiser 4 days ago and it’s already brought in over $33-million (USD $22.9 million). Donations are pouring in from all over the world.

Celebs are also stepping up. Chris Hemsworth announced yesterday that he’s donating $1 million to support the firefighters. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have donated $500,000, as well as singer Pink.
