‘Hamilton’ Film With Original Broadway Cast Will Release On Disney+ July 3

Shout it to the rooftops! Disney+ will release a filmed version of the Lin-Manuel Miranda smash-hit musical, Hamilton, on July 3 starring the original Broadway cast.

The film was originally set to be released in theaters on October 15, 2021, followed by a Disney+ berth. Disney Executive Chairman Robert Iger and Lin-Manuel Miranda announced today on Good Morning America that Hamilton will brighten up the July 4 weekend with the seminal hip hop American history tale.

The original Broadway cast appearing in the film include Tony Award winners Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson; Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler; Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr; Tony Award nominees Christopher Jackson as George Washington; Jonathan Groff as King George; Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton; and Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton. The cast also includes Carleigh Bettiol, Ariana DeBose, Hope Easterbrook, Sydney James Harcourt, Sasha Hutchings, Thayne Jasperson, Elizabeth Judd, Jon Rua, Austin Smith, Seth Stewart, and Ephraim Sykes.

Hamilton opened on Broadway on August 6, 2015 and went on to win 11 Tony Awards in 2016, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. According to Deadline, Disney won the deal with a commitment for a wide global theatrical release for the 2 hour, 40 minute movie, which was shot two weeks before the original cast left the production.

The filmed presentation of the musical is produced by Disney, creator (and original star) Lin-Manuel Miranda, producer Jeffrey Seller, and director Thomas Kail. Can't wait!
