Utah Is The Least Overweight And Obese State In America

Obesity has become a serious problem in America.

More than seven in 10 adults in America ages 30 and older are either overweight or obese. Rates for children have also risen drastically in the last few decades.

The problem is definitely more prominent in some states over others, however.

Wallethub recently released a list of the most overweight and obese states in America and Utah was dead last.

The most obese states were all in the southeast region of the country. West Virginia was the most obese state, followed by Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

The slimmest states were Utah, Hawaii, Colorado, the District of Columbia, and Massachusetts.

Utah also had the lowest health risks and one of the lowest numbers of obese children in the state.

To make this list, Wallethub compared the 50 states and the District of Colmbia across three key dimensions: obesity and overweight prevalence, health consequences, and food and fitness.

Those three dimensions were then broken down into 31 relevant metrics such as share of overweight adults, share of overweight children, level of expanded health insurance coverage, share of adults eating less than one serving of fruits and vegetables per day, and share of middle and high schools that serve salad bars, among others.
