Smith's Is Limiting How Much Toilet Paper, Cleaning Supplies You Can Buy

In an effort to make sure there's enough toilet paper for everyone, the grocery store Smith's is adding purchasing limits to certain items again.

“To ensure all customers have access to what they need, we’ve proactively and temporarily set purchase limits to two per customer on certain products,” Kroger spokeswoman Aubriana Martindale said in a statement. Kroger owns Smith's, along with numerous other grocery chains throughout the U.S.

The items with limits are toilet paper, paper towels, disinfectant, and hand soap. Kroger did not say when the product limits will end.

Other grocery store chains - like H-E-B in Texas and Giant in northeastern states - are implementing similar limits.

The decision was made as the number of coronavirus infections in the U.S. rise.

Last month, a study showed that 57% of people are planning to rebuild their stockpile if there was a second wave of COVID-19 infections. The study also found that 64% of people stockpiled goods at the start of the pandemic in spring, and that toilet paper and hand sanitizer were the two most in demand items.
