Temple Square Will Be Lit For Christmas, But Attendance Will Be Virtual

The iconic lights at Temple Square will be lit this holiday season, however, residents will have to enjoy them at a distance.

According to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, public access will not be granted on temple grounds amid the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.

All of the normal events associated with the temple lights will be held virtually this year.

The broadcast will be live on December 1st at 6 p.m. on the church's website and on the Temple Square Facebook page. It will be published in 11 different languages and later be made available for viewing on demand.

Since the grounds are closed, residents can view the lights from nearby sidewalks. Those who choose to do so are encouraged to wear facial coverings and practice social distancing.

To bring even more holiday cheer, prerecorded Christmas performances from around the world will be shared online from December 2nd until December 23rd. Broadcasts will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday evenings on the church's website and on the Temple Square Facebook page.

There will be Christmas specials aired every Sunday on the Tabernacle Choir channels starting November 29th and lasting through December 20th.
