Ski resorts are opening up in Utah for the 2020-2021 ski season with a few changes amid the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, reports 2 KUTV.
Andra Huskinson, communications manager for Alta Ski Area said, "We’ve never skied during a pandemic, so we’re as new to this as all of our skiers are too."
Huskinson said that this season will definitely be different than others with having to balance craving the powder, and keeping things safe during the pandemic.
Huskinson said, "Precautions with the COVID-19. How are we going to control the skier capacity on the mountain? What does it look like in our day lodges?"
A noticeable change that guests will see is the parking limit. This is how many resorts will limit the number of people that can come in each day.
Skiers at Alta are encouraged to log onto the resort's website first to see if the lot is full.
"It’ll let you know if we’re full, if we’re half full, we think our parking lot is going to fill up at 10:30. So we’re really trying to get people to check the website before they get in their car and drive up the canyon or the mouth of the canyon and have to get turned around," Huskinson said.
The capacity for the day will depend on conditions and how many slops are open.
Huskinson said, "If you ride the bus, or you’re staying at one of our lodges, someone drops you off, you take an Uber up here and get dropped off, you’ll be able to ski."
