#GoodNews: After Stroke, Stranger Continues Christmas Lights Tradition

Every year, Dale Marks puts up a massive Christmas lights display at his home in Des Moines to raise money for the Iowa Food Bank. For decades, people have come by the carload to see the display. Dale put bins at the end of the driveway and visitors to donate money and food to the Food Bank as they drive past. Thanks to the cash donations, they provided over 28,000 meals last year.

But this year. after suffering two strokes and a heart attack, Dale wasn’t up to the task, So, a stranger did it for him. Bob Coffey, who owns a local construction company heard Dale’s story from a friend and wanted to help. He had never met Sale, but he brought a group of volunteers to his home to install thousands of lights.

“The memory of that afternoon will last a lifetime. When we got done, I just told him to have a great night and to take care of himself. And he cried. I cried … It was pretty awesome."
