#GoodNews: Students Surprise Teacher With New Car

Julio Castro teaches at a High School in California. He wakes up at 4:30 every morning and commutes about four hours a day by scooter and bus to get to and from work because he doesn’t have a car.

One of his students says “He'll skip his lunch break to help a student and stay after school. He also helps students who aren't in his classes. He's really, really, really devoted to our futures."

That student noticed Julio looking at cars online one day and decided he wanted to help buy him a car. He set up a fundraising campaign, and throughout the summer students worked together to raise more than $30,000. They bought him a 2019 Mazda CX-3, a year's worth of gas and car insurance. The students then worked with the school faculty to set up a fake back to school assembly where they surprised Julio with the car.
