Everybody has interesting ancestors in their backgrounds, but this is one I wasn't expecting... a true blue, swashbuckling, keel hauling, buccaneer! I just learned that one of my 7th great grandfathers, William Downs, was a crewman on an infamous pirate ship called "The Fancy," captained by a man known as the "King of the Pirates," Henry Every or Avery. In 1695, they attacked an Arabian ship and brought in the largest haul of treasure ever known to have been had by a band of pirates! Oh, and then they tortured and killed almost everyone on board. Not exactly "Jack Sparrow." Argh!
