17-year-old Martin Folsom has been homeless off and on most of his life. He and his mother lived in different shelters across five states before settling in Jacksonville, Florida. Then, while he was in high school, they became homeless again. Despite all that, Martin will graduate as valedictorian of his class in July. He has a 4.06-grade point average and served as class president all four years of high school.
A mother and daughter just graduated med school together. Cynthia always wanted to be a family physician, but her own family came first. Then, at the age of 43, when her daughter Jasmine enrolled in college, she decided to join her. Jasmine is going into general surgery, and Cynthia will finally become a family physician. Both will start their residencies together at the same hospital.
