A Florida woman started an online effort originally meant to make a small impact in her community. Now, it’s raised millions of dollars for hundreds of thousands of people.
After seeing people around her losing their jobs, Shelly launched her Pandemic of Love program to connect people in need with those who could help. She posted forms online that people could fill out with their specific needs, whether it be groceries or a utility bill paid. The next day, she had 400 requests for assistance and 500 offers from people who wanted to help.
The idea has now spread across the US, and to 16 other countries around the world. The platform has raised over $13 million and has connected 132,000 people with the help they need.
